A Botanique Threads Story

The blank canvas: The initial idea behind ‘Botanique Threads’, was to provide a creative outlet for a no-longer practicing Landscape Garden Designer. A love for botany and horticulture, the creation of useful and aesthetically pleasing spaces, the pleasure my garden designs brought to numerous faces, had to be re-channeled into a less physical avenue.

Sowing: At this stage, every idea was a garden path to explore. On a whim of opportunity, several afternoons were spent learning to cut up large pieces of perfectly good fabric, only to stitch these smaller squares back together to create another piece of fabric. The creative ability to choose complimentary or contrasting coloured fabrics, re-stitching to form patterns, was an engaging activity. Designing quilted jackets, to showcase my abstract interpretations of the botanical and natural world, began to formulate.

Germination: Assembling a light-weight jacket, of cotton fabrics, to be worn throughout the year, gave Botanique Threads room to sprout. The nickname- Que Jack, threaded its way into existence. A positive stitch toward a productive future.

As the Que Jacks are an item for occasional purchase, some thought was required in the search for products that could accompany them, via an online selling platform. Products with a Botanical essence; products that were useful and appealing for daily or special occasions.

Fertilisation: Research pointed me towards soaps and bathing products. Soaps are used when preparing for an outing, dressed in a Que Jack. Hanging hand towels are something I have looked for, and gifts for house warmings have been other hard-to-find items.

What if I could provide a combination of products? Each gift pack would be unique and botanically themed. I could ‘take a garden with me’, without the soil and inevitable disappointment of a dead present. For gifts of appreciation to teachers, a co-worker’s farewell, secret Santa, or a friend’s anniversary celebration, the gift pack combinations would present a personalised, convenient solution to specifically suit your receiver. Tucked away in your stash of presents, ready to flourish once gifted.
